Join Our Community
Table of Contents
At Urban Green, life thrives on meaningful connections, genuine care, and shared experiences.
It offers the opportunity to join a multi-generational community where neighbours know one another, shared spaces bring people together, and everyday life includes both privacy and belonging.
To join our community, you begin getting to know the community. The process gives you time to meet residents, experience community life, and decide at your own pace whether Urban Green feels like the right fit.
We invite you to get involved in two ways: start as a Prospective Member and, if it feels right, take the next step to become a Shareholder.
Pathways to Join
Becoming a Prospective Member
The path to becoming a Prospective Member is designed to help people get to know Urban Green in a meaningful way before joining.
- It begins with an information session, where you can learn more about cohousing, hear about life at Urban Green, and get a sense of how the community works.
- If you’d like to take the next steps, simply sign in at the information session and we will send you an application.
- Next, you’re warmly invited to attend a business meeting and enjoy a social event with our community. These experiences let you explore both the practical and social sides of life at Urban Green, meet current members, and immerse yourself in our vibrant community.
- You will also meet with the outreach team for a conversation. This meeting lets you ask questions, express your interest in the community, and learn the details of membership.
- The outreach team will prepare a motion for a business meeting to introduce you to the community for acceptance as a prospective member.
- Once these steps are complete, the final step is to pay a one-time $100 membership fee, which is non-refundable. At that point, you become a Prospective Member, join the waitlist, and are among the first people contacted when a unit becomes available for purchase.
As part of the process, you agree to Urban Green’s Vision Statement and consensus decision-making process. This sets a clear foundation for the community’s values and approach.
Becoming a Shareholder
If Urban Green is the right fit, the next step is becoming a Shareholder.
To become a Shareholder, you will:
- Attend a second business meeting
- Have a second interview with the outreach team
- Have your offer to purchase a unit in Urban Green accepted
- Purchase a membership share of $2,000
Shareholders are the owners of an individual unit in Urban Green and can participate in the community’s business meetings. Each shareholding household has one vote on formal matters.
Moving at Your Own Pace
Urban Green’s joining process lets you explore the community at your own pace. Each part is clearly outlined, and you’re encouraged to move forward whenever you feel ready.
This gives you time to attend meetings, join a social event, connect with the outreach team, and learn about the community before deciding to proceed. Once the process is complete, you become a Prospective Member, join the waitlist, and are among the first people contacted when a unit becomes available for purchase.
