Here it is! We have nearly completed our rezoning application. It only needs some fine tuning before we submit. We have consulted with near neighbours and the Civic and Planning Committee of the Strathcona Centre Community League. We also presented our plans at the league’s monthly board meeting in May. We received good feedback and very positive encouragement from everyone. Such an open and supportive community! So glad to be a part of it.
On April 30 we had our first “Big Table” meeting with our architects, our contractor, and our project consultant. This begins the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)* process. The collaborative approach of IPD resonates with the values of our community and we are grateful to have a contractor, Chandos, who has taken the lead in introducing this method in Alberta. We expect IPD will help us stay within our budget and ensure a high quality of construction. This approach is new to our architects Tyler Dixon, Tracy Johnson (newstudio), Terry Hartwig, and Wes Sims (Hartwig Architecture) and to our Communitas consultants who urged us to consider it, but they are all on board and interested in this innovative process. So are we!
*American Institute of Architects defines IPD as a project delivery method that integrates people, systems, business structures and practices into a process that collaboratively harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to reduce waste and optimize efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and construction.
